The Conference will bring together over 3,500 health promotion practitioners, researchers, academics, and community workers from across the globe. Volunteers who meet the required time commitment, as noted below, will, when not working, be entitled to attend and participate in dialogue and debate sessions, listen to keynote speakers, and attend scientific presentations.
The conference will take place at the Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Center, but volunteers will also be needed at the Wosk Centre (Simon Fraser University downtown campus), the Pan Pacific and Fairmont Waterfront Hotels, and the international airport.
There are many areas of volunteer participation. For the best possible match, please indicate your top three choices on the Volunteer Registration Form. The areas of possible volunteer participation are described in further detail at the end of this newsletter; however, new positions may become available as we are continually assessing the volunteer needs.
All volunteers will be expected to volunteer a minimum of five shifts. The lengths of the shifts will vary, but will not exceed five hours.
There are many perks to volunteering! In exchange for the five volunteering shifts, every volunteer will have full access to the conference sessions. During this time, you can attend scientific presentations, listen to keynote presentations, or participate in dialogue and debate sessions. Please note that this does not include access to special events; they are ticketed events for all participants. Volunteering at the 19th IUHPE World Conference will also give you an opportunity to network with internationally reputable health practitioners, as well as, contribute to your own professional development by gaining valuable work experience. You will also be provided with a volunteer certificate and a volunteer T-shirt.
All volunteers will have to attend an orientation and training session that will help to familiarize volunteers with the conference expectations, policies and procedures. There will be an orientation session in Vancouver and, if warranted, in Victoria. The dates will be announced on the website. It is important to note that Volunteer Captains must attend additional orientation sessions.
The Volunteer Coordinator will match the volunteers’ interests and skills with the volunteer positions. Availability will be given a high priority. And remember, the policy is first-come/first-chosen, so apply today!
If you are accepted as a volunteer, a confirmation email will be sent out as soon as possible. You will be notified of your position after we have evaluated the volunteer need assessment and the skills of our potential volunteers.
