Call for Abstracts
The program of the 19th IUHPE World Conference is being organized around the overall theme of reviewing and critically assessing the progress of health promotion since the Ottawa Charter and navigating through new challenges that confront health promotion in an increasingly globalized World. Hence, the conference subtitle: Health Promotion Comes of Age: Research, Policy and Practice for the 21st Century.
The presentation program of the conference will be comprised of oral and poster presentations and, more interactive, workshop and symposium formats. The International Scientific Program Committee invites submissions of abstracts of proposed presentations in all formats relating to the overall conference theme and the four subthemes around which the conference will be developed.
Abstracts must be submitted on-line.
The deadline for submission is January 12th, 2007.
Further details and the link to the on-line Abstract Submission Form are contained below.
All abstracts will be subjected to peer review (see below). They will be evaluated as to their content quality, topic applicability, and appropriateness to overall Conference priorities. We will try to accommodate all proposals as they are submitted; however, the final decision about acceptance of and presentation format for individual submissions will be made by the International Scientific Program Committee. Submissions are encouraged in all formats.

General Guidelines for Abstract Submission
All proposals for presentation must be completed and submitted on-line using the Abstract Submission Form and following the guidelines provided below and elsewhere in this website. Proposals that do not follow the guidelines, that are incomplete, or that are received after the deadline date will not be considered for review. The International Scientific Program Committee will try to accommodate all presentations according to the presenters preferences but may reassign presentations according to conference program needs.
- Deadline: Abstracts must be received by Friday, January 12th, 2007.
- Abstracts must be submitted on-line using the Abstract Submission Form. That will take you to ScholarOne.com in a separate window, through which you can prepare and submit your abstract. You will receive a confirmation email within 24 hours of the submission of your abstract.
- Do not submit abstracts by mail or fax.
- Abstracts must be limited to 1900 characters (~250 words)
- If you require help with on-line submission, follow the links or guidelines provided in the abstract submission site.
- An author or presenter may submit more than one application for presentation, as long as the content of each is different. Authors should not submit the same abstract to more than one symposium or workshop
- All papers and presentations must be original, viz. neither previously published nor presented at a prior conference.
- Abstracts must be written in either English, French or Spanish. The on line facility will accommodate your language choice. Simultaneous translation will be provided for plenary sessions. However, most concurrent sessions will be held without translation. We will assume that presentations will be made in the language of the abstract submission and will plan the program accordingly.
- You can type your abstract directly into the designated box of the Abstract Submission Form. We recommend, however, that you create the abstract in your favourite word processor, copy the text of the abstract from your word processed document, and paste it into the Abstract Submission Form.
- All accepted abstracts will be published on the Conference Website and included in the Conference Abstract Book as copied directly from your submission. Please check your abstract carefully, making sure there are no spelling or other errors.
- All presenters whose abstracts are accepted for presentation are expected to register for the conference and are required to pay the registration fee and all other expenses involved in attending the meeting. Presenters who may have difficulty attending the conference should arrange for a substitute who will be able to attend the meeting and make the presentation.

Each abstract will be evaluated based on a set of domains: clarity of content; scientific rigour; relevance and timeliness in terms of public health/health promotion practice/issues; originality and creativity; and, in the case of symposia and workshops, diversification of language and geographical representation. Abstracts will be evaluated by a group of experts in public health / health promotion based on criteria outlined under each domain below:

- Results are stated succinctly
Science (0-20)
- Is based on sound methodology, including attempts to control bias
- Includes results which are generalizable to a range of populations

Each of these criterion receives a score from the following scale:
