Conference Program Design
The Conference Program is organized around the overall theme of reviewing and critically reassessing the progress of health promotion since the Ottawa Charter and navigating through new challenges that confront health promotion in an increasingly globalized world.
Thematic Days
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: specific action strategies of the Ottawa Charter will be addressed through plenary sessions, sub-plenary interactive panels, and concurrent sessions (e.g. creating supportive environments for health; building healthy public policy; strengthening community action; developing personal skills; and, re-orienting health systems). The goals are to reflect on what we have learned and accomplished, to evaluate where we are now and the challenges we are facing, and to chart the course for future research, policy and practice in these key strategic areas. Each day will also provide an opportunity for participants to consider whether the action strategies under consideration need re-conceptualization and new modes of application, given our present social, economic, political and cultural context of a globalized world.
Thematic Streams
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: three of the four conference themes (Reducing Health Inequities; Assets for Health and Development; and, Effectiveness of Health Promotion) will form Thematic Streams that inform the debate and discussion in relation to each of the Thematic Days. Each of the plenary sessions and sub-plenary interactive panels will critically reflect on the action strategies in relation to these three themes. The morning concurrent sessions will focus on Reducing Health Inequities. The afternoon concurrent sessions on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday (the IUHPE General Assembly will take place on Wednesday afternoon) will focus on Assets for Health and Development and Effectiveness of Health Promotion. Finally, on Friday morning, concurrent sessions will explore the theme of Enabling Systems Transformations, as a way of looking forward to the larger challenges facing health promotion in the 21st Century.
The program is comprised of a variety of session types and formats, including: plenary sessions, sub-plenary interactive panels, oral presentations, poster presentations, workshops, symposia and skills building sessions.
