Community Involvement Committee

Purpose

The Community Involvement Committee (CIC) is supporting community engagement activities to enrich the 19th IUHPE World Conference in Vancouver in June, 2007. For the purposes of this committee, community involvement is defined as "participation by members of the local and British Columbia community in aspects of the conference to benefit the community and assist the conference in achieving its goals."

The community involvement takes three forms:

  • Conference activities in which members of the community participate
  • Community activities in which conference delegates participate
  • Conference-related tasks which are performed by volunteers

  • Irving Rootman, Vice-President, Public Health Association of BC (Liaison to PHABC, IUHPE Coordinating Committee and Conference Marketing and Communication Committee )
  • Bruce Beairsto, Superintendent of Schools, Richmond
  • Linda Day, Executive Director, Aboriginal Women's Health and Healing Research Group, University of British Columbia (Liaison to IUHPE Conference Indigenous Peoples’ Committee)
  • Lynn Moran, Executive Director, AMSSA
  • Rita Stern, Adjunct Professor, Department of Health Care and Epidemiology, University of British Columbia
  • Lezlie Wagman, Manager, SMART Fund, Vancouver Coastal Health (Liaison to Conference Coordinating Committee)
